Costa Rica Fishing Charter Trips for Dorado, Rooster Fish, White Marlin, and More
Common catches for sport fishing in Costa Rica have broken over 100 records world wide. Osa Resort Club fishing charter trips have access to some of the most pristine fishing environments on the Pacific Coast, and our daily catch numbers reflect that. Some of the more exotic fish you'll have the pleasure of catching include:
Black Marlin
Specific to tropical and subtropical Indo-Pacific waters, the Black Marlin is a formidable game fish for Costa Rica sport fishing. It's fast swimming capability and immense size can intimidate even the most experienced of sport fishers. The Black Marlin can swim over 70 mph, reach over 8ft in length, and weigh over 1700 lbs. This predatory fish will eat everything from small Herring to large and fast Tuna.
Rooster Fish
The appearance of this fish makes it one of the most distinct in the world, and it is also how this fish acquired its name. A large series of quill-like fins arch off the back of this fish, similar to a rooster's plume. Typically an inshore catch, the Rooster Fish can weigh in excess of 100 lbs, making it a prize for any angeler. This fish typically feeds on schools of sardines and other small, schooling fish. The meat of the Roost Fish is not desirable, and often the fish is caught and released unharmed.
Dorado
Also known as the Dolphin fish, and Mahi-Mahi, the cultural name for this fish in Costa Rica is Dorado. The bright and beautifully distinct coloring of this fish are rarely miscategorized. The Dorado grows quickly and reaches its maximum size and weight by two years old with many males weighing over 50 lbs. Males typically swim alone, while females can be found feeding together near patches of seaweed. On the Pacific Coast, this fish is found both inshore and offshore.
